About
Ryuji Suzuki
Born in Chiba, Japan, in 1995. I began working in 2017 while on leave from university. In 2018, I joined Adoir (now Vook Inc.), the startup behind Vook, one of Japan’s largest platforms for filmmakers, and spent around two years helping establish the service. In 2021, I worked on the digital transformation of a procurement service and the launch of a new service at a food wholesaler specialising in confectionery and bakery supplies. My freelance work spans web content, service management, exhibitions and events, filmmaking, and photography. I work well behind the scenes.
◼︎ Areas of work
Content development, editorial writing, manufacturer interviews, equipment reviews, photography and filmmaking, direction, camera work, editing, colour grading, exhibition and workshop planning, event production, and user and customer support.

Statement
The world, the everyday, nature’s fluctuations—documenting moments, exploring their terrain.
Even when the world is represented in the finest detail, continuously or in discrete units according to a given legend, we encounter complexities that logic alone cannot explain. I find this when reading a fragment of a topographic map at 1:25,000, or when recording successive moments through a CMOS sensor at 24 or 120 frames per second. Nature’s fluctuations are like the notes between the white and black keys that twelve-tone equal temperament cannot express. They inhabit the space between hare and ke—the festive and the everyday in Japanese folklore. The world appears with each blink, a succession of moments. I want to spend my life documenting and exploring this uncertain, complex world without stripping away its uncertainty or complexity.
